Martha Dewing Woodward's
Depiction of the Everglades
A renowned artist and founder of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Miami, Martha Dewing Woodward contributed to Coral Gables cultural legacy with her breathtaking mural at the Coral Gables Woman's Club. Her depiction of the Everglades, commissioned by the Federal Arts Project, remains a cherished piece of public art now located at the HistoryMiami Museum. The mural originally adorned the wall behind the stage in the Coral Gables Woman's Club North Hall, where the club members met. It was donated to the HistoryMiami Museum by way of Ellen Uguccioni, head of the City of Coral Gables Historic Preservation Department in 1988.
